Annual Greeley Lecture with Dr. Blair Stonechild

February 19, 2026

Dr. Blair Stonechild, Professor of Indigenous Studies, delivered the annual Greeley Lecture at the Harvard Divinity School鈥檚 Centre for the Study of World Religions (CSWR) on February 10, 2026. His talk, titled 鈥Reconciling the Loss of Indigenous Eden鈥, explored the spiritual foundations of Indigenous life prior to European contact 鈥 what he described as 鈥淚ndigenous Eden鈥 鈥 and traced its disruption, alongside the lasting implications for contemporary society.

The event drew roughly 200 attendees both in person and online. Among the audience were Jim Peters (Mashpee Wampanoag), Commissioner of Indian Affairs for Massachusetts, and Clan Mother Anita Peters, who honoured Dr. Stonechild with a gift of tobacco. CSWR Director Charles Stang and his team offered warm hospitality throughout the visit. Faculty and students from across Harvard, including Dr. Joseph Gone, Director of the Harvard University Native American Program (HUNAP), also participated. The Harvard Crimson recognized the lecture as one of the day鈥檚 three notable university events, an especially meaningful acknowledgement.
