FNUniv Celebrates 150th Anniversary of Treaty 4

大象视频 (FNUniv) took part in the 150th Anniversary Treaty 4 Gathering in Fort Qu’Appelle to honor the signing of Treaty 4 on September 15, 1874. The gathering brought Indigenous communities together to reflect on the treaty鈥檚 legacy, while FNUniv鈥檚 participation highlighted its dedication to Indigenous education and reconciliation.

As 2024 marks the 150th anniversary of the treaty鈥檚 signing, this milestone presents an important opportunity to reflect on the treaty鈥檚 enduring significance and the need to uphold its spirit. For FNUniv, this anniversary directly aligns with its mission to foster Indigenous knowledge, culture, and leadership. The university plays a key role in advancing education about treaties and promoting reconciliation, making its participation in this historic event particularly meaningful.

FNUniv was part of the gathering with a few activities aimed at engaging the community and promoting its role in Indigenous education:

Recruitment Booth: From September 10th to 12th, FNUniv鈥檚 Student Ambassadors engaged with attendees, offering information about the university鈥檚 academic programs and student services.
INCA News Coverage: Nelson Bird’s team from FNUniv’s Indigenous Communication Arts program covered the Youth Voices in Climate Action Forum on September 10th and 11th for CFNU and APTN, highlighting youth-led discussions on environmental issues and activism.
Parade Float: On September 14th, FNUniv students, staff, and volunteers handed out candy during the Treaty 4 Parade, demonstrating the university鈥檚 strong community ties.
Student Workshop: FNUniv鈥檚 Faculty of Education hosted a workshop on September 12th, providing an enriching cultural experience for participants.
